Lost Power?
Check the switchboard.

  1. If all of the circuit breakers appear to be on call Energex to see if there are any power problems in your area.
  2. If there is a circuit breaker that is not on and there is no sign of burning or blackening anywhere on the board, then you can attempt to reset the circuit breaker by turning it back on. Should the circuit breakers trip again, call Style Electrical
    for assistance.
  3. In the event that the safety switch trips the power (turns it off) it is okay to reset the safety switch, however, remember that this will not fix the problem. The safety switch has tripped out for a reason, probably due to the appliances being used at the time.

Finding the fault.
When the safety switch trips, take note of what appliances you are using, turn these appliances off and pull the plug out from the wall. Reset the safety switch and plug the items back in and turn them on one at a time. Chances are something will trip the safety switch again, in this case you more than likely have a faulty appliance.

If you cannot isolate one appliance that is causing the problem and the safety switch is turning off at random intervals, we recommend you give Style Electrical a call for further assistance.

If there are any other faults than those listed above we recommend that you call Style Electrical immediately. Please do not touch anything in your switch board that you are unsure of.  If you have any concerns it is best to call us out as playing with electricity can
be very dangerous.

This is advice only and Style Electrical cannot be responsible for any work not carried out by us - remember if in doubt call Style Electrical.

Smoke Alarm
There are 2 main types of smoke alarms; the battery powered smoke alarm and the hard wired 240 volt smoke alarm. In most cases the 240V smoke alarm will have an indicator light permanently on to show that the power is connected to the alarm. The battery powered smoke alarm does not have this permanent indicator light.

Testing:
As per manufacturer recommendations weekly testing is required. This is done by pressing in and holding the “test” button until the alarm sounds (this should only take a few seconds). If the alarm does not sound then the smoke alarm may be faulty and you should contact Style Electrical.

Time to replace you battery?
There are 2 main types of smoke alarms use a 9 volt battery that should be replaced once a year, April 1st is used in Australia as a reminder to change the batteries in your smoke alarm and this advertised on the television and radio. (In the hardwired alarm this battery is used incase of power failure). Both types of smoke alarms have an indicator light for a low battery. This is usually a red light that will flash and possibly cherp when the battery is low.

Style Electrical can provide you with 9 volt lithium batteries, installation and other advice on your smoke alarms.

You should always read and follow the manufacture’s installation methods when installing, testing or battery replacement of your smoke alarm.
